Study Guide for Language:
Capitalization and Punctuation rules that gave them some trouble
*Seasons do not get capitalized.
*Each word in a title gets capitalized with the exception of small words like "the" and conjunctions "for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so".
**On today's quiz, several of the students lost points for missing capitals in titles. Here is an example: In the poem "The Frost is on the Punkin", the words "is", "on", and "the" are not capitalized, but the rest are capitalized. This can be a little confusing for them, you may want to remind them to keep their eyes open.
*Punctuation in dates looks like this: Thursday, November 30, 2023
It is very easy for them to leave out the commas.
*The colon between the book and verse in scripture is easy to miss as well. Isaiah 9:6
Nouns
Abstract nouns such as, "love" and "ideas" can be difficult because they are still considered to be nouns even though we cannot actually touch them.
Compound nouns are nouns that have two nouns together such as, "baseball" or "Pacific Ocean".
Lastly, proper nouns are our specific nouns such as, "Andrew" or "New Life Christian Academy" rather than "boy" or "school" which are common nouns and do not get capitalized.
Here is the quizlet link for the entire chapter 8 for History. Friday's quiz is only over sections 8.1-8.3 and the bodies of water on p. 539.

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
The next few weeks will be fun and exciting for us at school as we practice for the Christmas program and have our class party. Also, I am trying to set up a little Christmas caroling day for our class. I will send details asap.

You will notice that homework assignments will include rereading things that we have already read. I am working on the class becoming more fluent in their reading skills. This helps them to understand what they read in all areas of study. Have them read aloud a few times a week to you, but they can read most of it on their own.
Continue practicing multiplication. We are working on the 8 and 9 families this week.
*** We begin homework in class each day and usually have at least a 15-minute study hall. Encourage your child to take advantage of this time in school. ***
