October 3-7

Grandparent's Day is Friday!  It is going to be great! Please shoot me a message if you need help with your child's costume.  We will be working on our presentation in class.  Send in what they will be wearing by Tuesday if you can.  Remember, it can be as simple as an old fashion hat or as complex as full dress!  But, the costume is not a grade.  Let's have fun with it. 

Homework this week is minimal.  

Monday:  Study for Science Test which is on Tuesday, and prepare your costume. 

Tuesday:  Math p. 326 L. 30.  I would like them to finish this in class, but some may need to finish at home.  Study for History Quiz, I'll send home a study guide. :)

History Quiz Wednesday. 

There will be NO SPELLING TEST this week. We will be doing some troublesome word practice in class by playing games and doing some creative writing.  

In their Take-Home folders, I have stapled their sign-in info for IXL.  Once logged in, on the bottom right of their screen, it says "teacher suggestions".  Please feel free to allow them to jump on there anytime and try those.  They can earn certificates, and it is GREAT practice.  As of now, it is not required, just suggested practice.  We will be using it more and more in the classroom as well.

The Science test tomorrow will be a quiz rather than a test.  The class has a study guide completed and coming home tonight.  :)

Heads Up:
The Science Quiz tomorrow with be an open book quiz.  Students will not need to spend extra time studying for it.

Thursday Update on History----No History homework tonight! 

Thursday Update to Math Test 2-----We will take a Math Quiz instead.  The quiz will be over division with NO remainders, addition, and money.  

A great way to be good at division is to know your multiplication tables.  So to help your child be prepared in Math class, practice the multiplication tables up to the 7 tables.  You can always practice counting money at home too.  

I love the website mathisfun.com.  If you go there and chose "Numbers", you will find several practice games for mastering their times tables.

There is no Science worksheet for homework, but they need to study 2.l-2.5 in their books.  They wrote down some important terms to study which should be helpful.  REMEMBER, like the History test, this Science is just practice, not recorded.

This week in spelling we are skipping the "Challenge Words" on list 5 and replacing them with 10 words I have chosen that I think will help the class.  I snapped a picture and am including it here as I could not get them to the printer. We have begun practicing them in class. Thanks!

 Quick reminder for Group 2 to read pages 67-71 in their reading books tonight.  :)

On October 7th we will be celebrating Grandparent's Day here at NLCA.  This is a fun and exciting day for everyone!  The time will be announced soon! 

Our class will set up a display titled "Colonial Life".  I will be putting the class into groups, and MOST of the work will be done in class, but I am asking for the students to dress up like a child from the 13 original colonies.  Our history books have pictures, and I will include a few here.  We can keep it simple by finding a bonnet for a hat or a simple straw hat, or you may get more creative for your child if you would like.  

Have fun with this costume at home!  The costume will not be graded!!!  It is simply to make Grandparent's Day more interesting.  I would like all of our preparations be complete by Wednesday the 5th.  The work students do in class will be a History and Science quiz grade as both subjects will be incorporated into their displays.

 Tuesday Homework Update:  

We are splitting into reading groups for smaller group interaction.  The students know their group number.  I am already seeing great success in these groups as each student gets more time to read each day.  Sometimes I will have a group read a few pages at home for practice.  I have put post it notes into their reading books with the pages and will have it written onto their homework sheet.

The assigned homework is the same.  The class was given about 15 minutes to work on homework in class today, so they got a jump on it!  YAY! 

Sept. 12-16 

Beginning Monday, I am asking that you please sign your child's homework assignment list each day.  Quick initials will work great, and I will reward them each day that you sign it.  This will help keep us all on the same page.  I will continue to put it on the blog, but it is subject to change daily.  

4th Grade will be launching a Multiplication Mission this week!  We will be mastering our multiplication facts through some fun, space activities!  Watch for "Math Pages" to come home as we multiply through the galaxy! :)
