Remember weekend homework is math p. 348 lesson 98 and they need to finish their book reports. They should be 3 paragraphs: first, tell about your main character’s character traits.  Second, tell the main event. Last, tell about your favorite part. I’m looking for solid paragraphs with topic sentences and supportive details. Our boys and girls are getting good at this!

Our upcoming week is our spirit week! Check out the NLCA website for details, but here are a few things to remember:

Monday’s theme is country vs country club!  Choose one to dress like. I will be in country gear!

On Thursday ONLY, we will be selling spirit gear.

Thursday night will be our Homecoming night. There are 3 ball games starting at 5, Middle school boys,  and both varsity teams. Please join us!

We are having a penny war, so send in pennies every day! Wrapped coins earn our class more points!

Let’s help 4th grade to win the penny war!

I’m looking forward to a fun week!

I will do a separate homework post later to keep it separate.

Have a great weekend!

Hello!  The above is a picture of your child's "My State Notebook" workbook .  This post is lengthy, but has important information.

**I am keeping the workbooks here for safety. :)  Once it is complete, they will put them into a binder, which I will provide.

**The plan for this project is for us to begin a task at school, and finish it at home.

**Please notice the maps below.  These are the maps they were to finish this week for homework.  You can use them to help study for future quizzes.  Please note that I realize my maps are not to scale.😃

**Their first quiz will be Tuesday the 17th.  It will be over these 2 maps and the facts they write into their history notebooks.    For example:  State animals are the black bear, cardinal, and rainbow trout.

**Ask them to show you their notebooks, starting Thursday.  I am encouraging them to bring them home each night.

**The main thing the children need for you to help them with is finding pictures and information.  I have a collection of West Virginia travel brochures and things I have collected that they will be able to use.  I also have all the facts and content they will learn, BUT, you will need to help them collect, create, and print several things at home.  Travel brochures are great and can be found all over town at stores and gas stations.  Feel free to print things off the internet. Please send it to school so we can work in the workbooks.

**Please do not become overwhelmed with this.  It should be a fun learning project! Let them draw and create! They are a very creative group! I love seeing all the things they come up with!

**Here is a list of pictures that they will need to complete their workbook:

State flag and symbols, wildlife, scenery, landmarks, famous people, industry, plant life, educational institutions, natural resources, government buildings, and/or anything about our state that you come across that would enhance their learning.

**I will announce the specific due date later.

** It will be our History content for about the next 4 weeks.

**I will post every few days showing our progress and things they need.

Thank you all so much for allowing me to spend my days with your children!  They are great, and they are accomplishing so much!

Assignment Changes

Science Quiz 10 is rescheduled for Friday. It will be over 6.1-6.3.

There is no Spelling vocabulary on the Spelling Test this week.

Here are some things to help them study for Friday's Language Test:  Also, use Thursday's graded quizzes to study.

     1.  Contractions such as, you will = you'll, were not= weren't, are not = aren't, have not = haven't, and other common contractions.

     2.  Practice correctly using "there", "their", and "they're", and "your" and "you're".

     3.  Common nouns such as "girl", "boy", "school"...

Proper nouns such as, "New Life Christian Academy", "Bobby", "West Virginia"...

Abstract nouns such as, "time", "love", "legend"...

Compound nouns such as, "New Life Christian Academy", "West Virginia", "Yellowstone                            National Park" "baseball"...

*** Notice that some can fall into more than one category.

      4.  Punctuation and capitalization in quotations.  Example:  Mom said, "We will leave after lunch."

Notice the capital letter beginning the quote and the placement of the comma, quotations, and                    period.

Also periods in initials and after titles such as, "Dr."  or "D.L. Moody"

      5.  Remember poems and songs get quotations:  "Amazing Grace"

      6.  Books are underlined.  Little House on the Prairie

      7.  Be able to diagram the subject and verb in a sentence. I will be sure they have examples.

      8.  Subject verb agreement.  For example, chose the correct verb:  She (has, have) completed her                 work.  The correct choice is "has".

They should be reading at least 4 nights per week in their book report books.

Goals and This Week's Plan

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and a nice break!

I am excited for what 2023 holds for the class.  Before we know it, they will be turning into 5th graders! I have a few specific goals for them over the next 2 months.  They are doing terrific so far in 4th grade, and I know they can reach just about any goal we set!

Math:  The main goal in math is to memorize the multiplication tables to 12 and begin memorizing the division tables.  The multiplicaton tables are extremely important going forward for them in math.

Language and Reading:  The main goal over the next 2 months is for them to be able to construct sentences with more than 5 words, and create paragraphs with at least 4 sentences containing a topic sentence, supporting details, and a concluding sentences. I would like for them to read each evening either in their assigned book report book, or something else enjoyable for them.  Reading and writing skills go hand and hand;  success in Language and top-notch reading skills in 4th grade are the foundation for future success in Language Arts.

Lastly, I will be working with them on developing independent study skills, especially in History and Science.  We began writing answers to the Comprehension Checks into their History and Science notebooks.  You have probably noticed the Chapter Check-up sections for homework.  These make a perfect study guide. I hope keeping this notebook with the ansers will continue to be a big help.  I make flashcard for each chapter, and the class enjoys playing games using them.  Your child could create some on their own.  Creating their own practice quizzes is another great study tool.  We want to build solid, independent study habits.

Thank you for reading all the above information.  The class has learned so much already this year, and I am excited to see even more progress!

God will bless your committment to their education!
