We have a major pencil shortage in our classroom.  If you can help with this, it is greatly appreciated.

The Historical speeches today were amazing!  I am so proud of the hard work, and I know they learned a lot.  There are a few students left to give their speeches tomorrow, and I know they will also be great!

The final essay is due tomorrow.  I will copy the 3 paragraph format at the end of this post.

They will also need to make a title page, have a picture to turn in by Wednesday, and show me their sources.

Remember:  Each student needs $2.00 and a drink for our party Wednesday.  We will be exchanging Christmas socks!  Also, no school Thursday!

****Special Note:  The class was given 20-40 minutes to write everyday, but I need to make mention of the fact that a few students did not always use this time to write.  We had some problems with some of them working on paper "projects" or playing in their desks.  If they come home tonight with hours worth of work, they may have been one of the ones who did not take advantage of class work time.

Paragraph One: Describe the looks of the location.

Paragraph Two:  Describe how the location was developed/founded.  Who was involved in its establishment or discovery.  Dates...

Paragraph Three: Describe why the location is famous.  What makes it interesting?

1-2 sentence for a closing.

Historical Essay Information

So far, they should have their first 2 paragraphs complete and written neatly on notebook paper.  Today we began writing the third paragraph.  We will complete it on Monday, it is not homework.

On Monday, they will give a 2 minute speech telling the class what they have learned about their location so far.  They should write this short speech out on a notecard or sheet of paper, and practice giving their speech over the weekend.  Several students began practicing their speech in class today.

Here is the structure of the essay due Wednesday.

Paragraph One: Describe the looks of the location.

Paragraph Two:  Describe how the location was developed/founded.  Who was involved in its establishment or discovery.  Dates...

Paragraph Three: Describe why the location is famous.  What makes it interesting?

On Monday we complete the third paragraph and for homework they will neatly write their final copy.  I will collect them on WEDNESDAY.  I would like them to include a visual on an 8x10 piece of paper and have a title page.  We will complete the title page here.  They may need to put everything neatly together at home to be turned in.

We will have pizza for lunch.  Please sent $2 and a drink for your child.

There will be a Parent Teacher Fellowship meeting tomorrow at 2:45 for anyone interested.

Information for the Animal poster due Monday.

The poster boards are large and may be cut in half if you would like.

Here is an example poster although I am requiring 2 pictures on ours.

The class had about 40 minutes today to collect facts about their chosen animal.  The requirements for the poster are:

**2 pictures-hand drawn, traced, copied, or printed from the internet

                    **5 facts about the animal

Some ideas for the facts they can look for:

Habitat, range maps, diet, prey, predators, cold or warm blooded, what type of                                          animal it is, or describe any interesting physical characteristics or habit the                                                 animal may have.

Information about the Historical Landmark Essay which will be completed in class.

The only thing they need to do at home is finish the final copy, if they do not finish at school, and to find at least 2 sources with information about their chosen landmark. It's not necessary to print out entire articles that you may find on line. I can allow them to bring up a website here at school on the school IPad if you can send me the exact address.

Our public library has several good resources as well.

The final copy is due on Tuesday, December the 13th.
