 Tonight's Math Homework is p. 330.  Do the entire page.  Also, if class math is not completed at school,                                 they will also bring that home.  

                History is the same as on the original blog, they will have begun this in class. ( P. 173 A-C)

Ford's Theater- Place where Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth. 

Merrimack and Monitor-battle of the ironclads.  

Appomattox Court House-Location of Lee's surrender to Grant. 

Battle of Bull Run- First major battle of the Civil War

Gettysburg-Turning point of the Civil War

Harriet Tubman-Led over 70 slaves to freedom using the underground railroad

Sherman- led a "march to the sea". 

Republican party-Founded on the belief that slavery should not be allowed in the U.S. 

Dred Scott Decision- After this, slavery was allowed in the new U.S. territories. 

South Carolina-The first state to secede from the Union 

Slavery was outlawed by the Thirteenth Amendment. 

Jefferson Davis-Elected president of the Confederate States of America

Kansas-Nebraska Act- Allowed Kansas to join the Union as a slave state.  

Science  Study sections 4.1-4.4 and be able to label the parts of a flower.

Know the following facts:

A pine tree is a needleleaf tree. 

All living things are called organisms. 

Each annual ring represents a year of a tree's life. 

A tree's roots anchor it to the ground. 

A maple is an example of a broadleaf tree. 

Deciduous trees lose their leaves and are bare part of the year

Practice these terms: 

chlorophyll-green matter that plants use to make their food. 

fruit- Holds and protects the seeds. 

Inputs of photosynthesis:  Sunlight, water, adn carbon dioxide

Humus-helps soil by adding nutrients and soaking up water.  

Palm tree-does not have branches, annual rings, or bark. 

Oxygen- Given off by photosynthesis. 

Disk flower-Flowers of a composite flower that radiates from the center.

  **Begin studying Spelling Review List 9 over the weekend.**

 Week of Oct. 23-27   

Important dates: 

Make-up pictures day is Tuesday the 24th. 

On Friday the 27th we will be taking our field trip to the pumpkin farm.  Please send permission slips asap if you have not already.  

Wednesday the 25th is the last day of the first 9 weeks.  We will take our 9-week exam for Science on Tuesday and for History on Wednesday.  

Our Spelling Test over list 9, a review list, will be on Thursday.  There will NOT be a trial test this week; there will only be one chance this week for the spelling test. 

Homework: 

Monday-Study for the Science Exam over sections 2.6 through chapter 3

                

Tuesday-Study for the History Exam.  

                Copy Spelling List 9 once.  Remember the test is Thursday, and there is no trial test.  

Thursday-Science- Do pp 168-170 CCR1

Friday- Begin reading Song of the Brook; I will hand the book out today.  The class will do book reports on this book in a few weeks.  They will need to read 1-2 chapters a day at home to stay on track, excluding Wednesdays and one weekend day.  

Memory Verse Quiz on Friday will be over 1 Cor. 13:1 & 2.

We had another great week in 4th grade. 😁 The Book Fair begins Monday.  The class will visit each morning and have about 20 minutes to shop.  

This week will be a lot of review, and the following week we will take our 9-week exams.  **I will make a separate post with quizlet links for History and Science. **

The best way to help your child prepare for math and language is to take a look at the pages we do in each class. Here are a few points to study: 

Math-Multiplying up to 6 family, division, and practice measurements. 

Language- Be able to find verbs and verb phrases, locate nouns in sentences, plural nouns, and irregular verbs. 

Spelling- We will be on list 8 this week.

A few classroom needs: mini marshmallows, toothpicks, and a couple whiteboard erasers

I will post this week’s detailed homework and quiz schedule Monday, and they will have it in their take-home folders.

An example sentence: They will jump for joy if we win! 

The verb phrase in this sentence is will jump.
